Canadians in Surrey and throughout the country have been awaiting the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP). Now that it’s here, there’s a lot to learn about it. What is it? How does it work? How do you apply? Are you eligible? Let’s take a closer look at what the CDCP offers and how you can benefit from it.
What is the Canadian Dental Care Plan?
The Canadian Dental Care Plan is designed to help Canadians afford the cost of dental care. Oral health is recognized as an essential part of overall health, and the CDCP aims to cover dental costs for those who lack private coverage.
The plan covers a wide range of dental services, from basic procedures like general cleaning, permanent fillings, and root canal treatments, to major services such as dentures, tooth extractions, and dental crowns. For a complete list of covered services, consult your dentist.
Depending on various factors, the CDCP may cover only a portion of the costs.
Who is Eligible?
Before applying, it’s essential to determine if you qualify for the plan. The eligibility criteria are currently being phased in to prevent overwhelming the system. At this stage, the CDCP is open to the following residents of North Surrey:
Seniors aged 65 and over
Children under the age of 18
Adults with a valid Disability Tax Credit certificate for 2023
The final phase of the rollout will take place in 2025, at which point all Canadians who meet the remaining criteria will be able to apply.
To qualify for the Canada Dental Care Plan, you must meet the following conditions:
You do not have existing dental insurance.
Your adjusted family net income is less than $90,000.
You are a Canadian resident for tax purposes.
You filed a tax return for the previous year.
